General Continuing Education Information: Classroom Courses

Registration Information

Preregistration is required for guaranteed seating in a training course. A completed continuing education registration form must be received by PSATS to reserve your seat. Because of limited class size, SEOs are urged to register early.

Walk-in Registration

Walk-ins to a class are welcome if seating is available. However, if a class is full, seats will not be added to the classroom to accommodate walk-ins. It is recommended that you call PSATS at (717) 763-0930 to confirm availability ahead of time.

 Registration Confirmation

Registrants will be notified by email, within 15 business days, after PSATS receives their registration form to confirm that they are registered for a course. If PSATS does not have a valid email address on file, a confirmation postcard will be sent. PSATS will then mail another reminder postcard/letter 30 days prior to the course, detailing the time and location. If the class is full, PSATS will notify registrants by way of email, upon receipt of their registration form. If no valid email address is on file, PSATS will contact registrant by phone.

Accessibility & Other Needs

Training is held at ADA-accessible locations. PSATS will make every effort to accommodate participants with special needs who have noted them on their continuing education registration form.

Additional Classes

Classes will be added to the schedule of courses for the 2008-2010 certification cycle only if there are 15 SEOs on the waiting list 30 days prior to the class or prior to January 1, 2010, and the same course had not been previously cancelled at that location due to low registration.

Cancellation of a Class

For a course to be held, there must be a minimum of 10 SEOs on the registration list a month prior to the date of the course. If there are not 10 SEOs registered to take the course 30 days prior to the course date, PSATS will notify the registrants that the course has been cancelled.

Three-Strikes Policy

Anytime a registrant does not attend a class for which he or she registered and fails to notify PSATS of a cancellation at least eight (8) days in advance, the no-show will be documented on that registrant's permanent file at PSATS and a warning letter will be sent to the individual. (This documentation was initiated at the beginning of the 2002-2004 certification cycle — July 1, 2002.) After the third occurrence, a $50 registration deposit will be required with all future registration forms for that individual. The registration deposit is not a fee, as the check will be returned to the registrant upon class check-in. However, if the registrant again fails to attend a course for which he or she is registered and fails to notify PSATS of the cancellation at least eight (8) days in advance of the class, then the registrant's deposit will be forfeited.

Successful Completion of Two-Day Courses (#109-#211)

To receive successful completion of a two-day course, a registrant must complete the course on consecutive days. Day one cannot be taken at one location and then day two taken at a different location.
If #109 Advanced Soils must be retaken, due to failing the exam, an SEO must attend both days of the course to be eligible to sit for the exam on day two.

Successful Completion of a Course with Self-Study Materials (#213 is the only course with self-study materials at this time.)

Prior to attending the classroom portion of a course that has self-study materials, you must complete the online course quiz. There is no pass/fail score for the quiz. However, you will be given a score to provide feedback on your knowledge of the materials.

When you register for a #213 class, you will automatically be registered for the online quiz. The self-study materials will be available January 1, 2010. The quiz should be completed five (5) working days prior to the classroom session to ensure that PSATS has received your successful completion.

Rules and Procedures

  1. Successful completion of any course is measured by attendance. Therefore, anyone who misses more than 30 minutes per day of a class of a course will not receive credit hours for that course. He or she is welcome to participate in the course with the understanding that the course will not count toward continuing education credits. When leaving class other than at break time, attendees are required to check out with the facilitator.
  2. Cell phones or other communication devices must be turned off during class. Five-minute breaks will be offered approximately every hour. At that time, calls may be made. Attendees will not be permitted to talk on communication devices during class and will be required to leave if they do.
  3. All registrants must bring a photo ID to each continuing education course and present it at registration.
  4. No smoking will be allowed in the classroom.
